Orange County man pleads guilty to criminal sexual act against a child

GOSHEN - A New Hampton man pleaded guilty to first-degree criminal sexual act, a felony, in Orange County Court on Thursday.

Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler said during the plea proceedings the defendant, Justin Babb, 41, of New Hampton, admitted that he engaged in anal sexual conduct with a child less than 11 years old in August 2023.

Hoovler said when Babb is sentenced on Aug. 20, the people will recommend that he be sentenced to 18 years in state prison, followed by 10 years of post-release supervision.

Babb also will be registered as a sex offender as one of the terms of his sentence.

"This defendant's unspeakable actions demand a lengthy prison sentence," Hoovler said in a statement released by his office. "It is inconceivable that a child could be subjected to the horrific acts perpetrated by this offender."

Babb's attorney, Raymond Sprowls of the Legal Aid Society of Orange County, could not immediately be reached for comment.
