Oppenheimer finally confirms November digital release date
We've had to wait longer than expected, but Oppenheimer has finally confirmed its home release for November.
Universal has announced that Christopher Nolan's masterpiece will be released on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD and on digital platforms on November 22 in the UK, more than four months after its theatrical release.
The home release comes with more than three hours' worth of special features, including a making-of documentary that features exclusive interviews with Nolan and others involved in the movie's production.
Oppenheimer will be released a day earlier in the US on all platforms from November 21.
Fans had expected an earlier release for Oppenheimer given that Barbie – one half of the enormous Barbenheimer phenomenon – was released on digital on September 12 and will be out on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD on October 23.
However, producer Emma Thomas had confirmed that the movie was receiving a longer exclusive theatrical window, more in line with what we had been used to in previous years for big releases.
Other special features for Oppenheimer's home release include a Q&A panel with physicists about the science behind the movie and an NBC News documentary about the real J Robert Oppenheimer.
Oppenheimer has made a huge $942 million worldwide, making it Nolan's third biggest movie ever and also the highest-grossing biopic of all time ahead of Bohemian Rhapsody.
The movie marks the latest collaboration between Nolan and lead star Cillian Murphy. He told Digital Spy before its release that he would never say no to the filmmaker.
"Any actor would want to work with Chris, no matter what the part," he explained. "But I didn't know it was going to be this huge, ginormous, terrifying part. When it's Chris, he's a genius, and I don't throw that word around, but I think it definitely qualifies."
Oppenheimer will be released on DVD, Blu-ray, 4K Ultra HD and on digital platforms on November 22 in the UK.
