Open Streets ICT returns to the Wichita State neighborhood this weekend

Another installment of the popular Open Streets ICT event will happen on Sunday. This time, the closed-off street filled with vendors, bicyclists and fun activities will again be near Wichita State University.

That’s not the only fun thing happening this weekend. The monthly Wichita Flea Market is back, Wave will be home to an epic battle of the bands, and a Broadway-style circus will start its run under the big tent in Andover.

Here’s a look at other fun things to do in Wichita this weekend:

Open Streets, Shocker style

Noon-4 p.m. Sunday, 17th Street from Oliver to Grove

Another Open Streets ICT event is happening this weekend, returning to the neighborhood around Wichita State University. Put on by Wichita Park & Recreation, the event will last from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday on 17th Street from Oliver to Grove. The street will be closed to traffic and will be lined with food trucks, music and activities. People can bike, walk or run the route at their own pace. Admission is free. Animal-free circus

Through April 21, Marietta Farms, 1600 E US-54, Andover

The circus is coming to Andover. The Venardos Circus, an animal-free show, arrived at Marietta Farms in Andover on Thursday and will continue its run through April 21. The show, which was created by former Ringling Bros. Ringmaster Kevin Venardos, is a Broadway-style show put on under a red-and-white striped tent. It features aerialists, acrobats, jugglers, daredevils, magicians and more. Show times are 7 p.m. Friday and April 18-19; 2 and 5 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and April 21; and 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. April 20. Tickets are $27.95-$59.95 for adults and $16.95-$59.95 for children ages 3-12. They’re available at venardoscircus.com/andover-ks/

Prince tribute

7:30 p.m. Saturday, Orpheum Theatre, 200 N. Broadway

Prince is gone, but a nine-piece band called When Doves Cry performs “The Prince Tribute Show” and will be at Wichita’s Orpheum Theatre on Saturday. The group, which has a song list containing more than 100 Prince songs, will start the show at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $30 to $35 and are available at selectaseat.com, at 316-755-7328 or in person at the Select-a-Seat box office at Intrust Bank Arena. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Battle of the Bands

6 p.m. Saturday, Wave, 650 E. Second

CASA of Sedgwick County, a group that trains community members to advocate for abused and neglected children in the foster care system, is putting on a Battle of the Bands fundraiser on Saturday that will feature local acts Just Tori & The Gang, Orphan Jon & The Abandoned, Sometimes on Sunday, and Jet City. Doors open at 5 p.m., and the battle starts at 6 p.m. Advance tickets to the show are $20 for adults, $15 for students and members of the military at waveict.com. They go up in price to $33.86 the day of the show.

Flea Market at the ball field

9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Riverfront Stadium, 275 S. McLean

It’s Wichita Flea Market weekend again, and this month, the event will happen at the Riverfront Stadium, where the Wind Surge play. The market, which happens from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, will feature vendors at more than 225 booths spread across the ball field. They’ll be selling antiques, crafts, vintage items, comics, artwork, jewelry, toys and more. Admission tickets are $3, free for ages 12 and under. They’re available at the Delano entrance on the northwest corner of the stadium.

Art Together… with pups

10 a.m. Saturday, Mark Arts, 1307 N. Rock Rd

This month’s Art Together event at Mark Arts has a puppy theme, just in time for National Pet Month. Mark Arts is partnering with the Kansas Humane Society for the Saturday event, which will include a story time at 10 a.m., a free animal-themed art project inspired by pop artist Roy Lichtenstein at 10:30 a.m., and a meet-and-greet with furry canine friends at 11 a.m. People are asked to leave their own pets at home. Admission to the event is free, but registration is requested at markartsks.com
