Did somebody forget to bring the mustard?

Memorial Day will again be upon us on Monday. The federal holiday, created to honor veterans who lost their lives in the line of duty, is also considered by many as the unofficial kickoff of summer. As such, many Americans will spend the day relaxing, grilling and or barbecuing.

But what if you forgot to bring a condiment or need some extra packs of napkins and plastic forks? And what about garbage pickup or if you need to swing by the bank?

Here’s a list of what’s open and closed in the Columbia area on Monday.

Local government offices

Columbia City Hall, West Columbia City Hall and Lexington Town Hall are all set to be closed on Memorial Day. Regular hours will resume on Tuesday.

Garbage pickup

Garbage pickup should remain on normal schedules despite the Memorial Day holiday.

Grocery stores

Grocery stores will be open on Memorial Day, including Publix, Walmart, Target, Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods Market, Aldi and Piggly Wiggly.

Pharmacies

Walgreens and CVS stores will be open on Memorial Day. However, some of their pharmacies may be closed, so you’d better call ahead before you visit a particular location.

Banks

The Federal Reserve will be closed on Memorial Day, so don’t expect any banks in the Columbia area to be open.

Post office, UPS and FedEx

The U.S. Postal Service will be closed on Memorial Day. However, though there will be no regular mail service, Priority Mail Express is delivered 365 days a year and will be delivered on Monday.

UPS will be closed on Memorial Day for deliveries, however, some of its stores may be open. Call ahead before you visit a local store.

FedEx delivery services will be unavailable on Monday.
