‘Only Murders in the Building’ Gets Even Twistier in Season 3—Read Our 5-Star Review

Curtain up...on murder!
Season three of Only Murders in the Building takes viewers to the stage, where Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short) and Mabel (Selena Gomez) are faced with a brand-new mystery—the death of actor Ben Glenroy (Paul Rudd), who just so happened to be the lead of Oliver's first show in years, and who collapsed on stage at the end of season two.
Of course, season three will eventually lead us to Ben's murderer, and based on the first episode, it's clear that this new installment will include more of Oliver's jabs, Mabel's dry jokes and Charles's goofiness. But if one thing's clear, season three of Only Murders will also be twistier than ever before. Continue reading for our full review.
In season one, we watched the trio come together thanks to their love of true crime, as they tried to solve the murder of fellow Arconia building resident, Tim Kono (documenting their findings in the process). Then, season two saw the podcasters get put under the microscope, as they were framed for the death of Arconia board president Bunny Folger.
Now, our favorite low-key detectives are in an entirely new place in their lives. Mabel is feeling disconnected from her age-gapped friends, after Charles starred in Oliver's play, allowing the two to get more quality time together. To make matters worse, Mabel also reveals that she will be moving out of the Arconia in a matter of weeks, which will cause more separation amongst the group.

But just in the nick of time, a new murder draws the team back together, giving them a good reason to dust off their microphones and start podcasting once again.
Except, they may be unprepared for what's coming their way. Without spoiling it here, the first episode comes with not just one, but two twists, making it harder for our leads to know who they can trust, or what they can believe. And in the vein of the recent murder mystery movie, See How They Run (2022), our investigators now have a Broadway stage to act as the backdrop for their findings—AKA the perfect setting for unveiling dramatic clues.

In addition to its bigger twists, season three of Only Murders also offers yet another batch of huge guest stars. Rudd is loads of fun to watch as he transforms into the egotistical and self-aggrandizing Hollywood actor Ben.
Meanwhile, the ever-impressive Meryl Streep shines here as the aspiring actress Loretta Durkin, who finally gets her big shot thanks to a leap of faith from Oliver. Yet, despite her seemingly timid nature, a lurking sense of ruthlessness makes her performance totally compelling, and it's fair to say she will be a major suspect throughout season three.

In season three of Only Murders in the Building, the laughs are more riotous, the list of A-list guest stars grows bigger and the plot gets even more twisty and unexpected. Will our three leads finally find their true loves? Will their friendship be able to withstand greater tensions? Will the writers make Meryl Streep a murderer? We're left with all of these questions at the end of episode one, and it's obvious we're in for a bloody good ride.
