New Onimusha Anime Trailer Arrives Ahead Of Netflix Debut This Week

Onimusha Netflix anime

Netflix’s anime adaptation of Onimusha airs on November 2nd, and the streaming company has just released a new trailer to get you hyped for it.

Directed by Takashi Miike (Audition, Ichi The Killer) and Shinya Sugai (Dragon's Dogma), the anime is based on Capcom’s Onimusha series, which first arrived on the PlayStation 2 in 2001.

The games take historical Japanese figures and pit them against supernatural enemies, and used real-life actors including Takeshi Kaneshiro and Jean Reno.

“Taking the helm as supervising director is Takashi Miike, whose innovative depictions of cinematic swordplay in the critically acclaimed 13 Assassins and Blade of the Immortal have won over legions of fans," said Netflix of the collaboration.

"Together with director Shinya Sugai, celebrated for his work on CG anime Dragon's Dogma, and animation studio Sublimation, they aim to revolutionize the anime landscape with their unique take on Onimusha.”

The main character of the Onimusha anime is modelled on Toshiro Mifune, star of Akira Kurosawa’s classic Seven Samurai and Yojimbo movies, with a voice provided by Akio Otsuka, who also starred in the original games.

An Onimusha movie was announced back in 2004 with Silent Hill movie director Christophe Gans attached, but production never began.
