One woman dead, two children in critical condition after two-vehicle crash near Fowler

One woman was killed and several others, including children, were seriously injured Wednesday morning in a two-car crash near Fowler, California Highway Patrol reported.

The crash occurred around 10 a.m. near the intersection of South Clovis and East Jefferson avenues. A Chevrolet Malibu and Mercedes Benz sedan collided on southbound Clovis avenue, CHP public information officer Mike Salas reported.

The front passenger in the Mercedes, a woman in her 40s, died at the scene, Salas said.

A total of six people were reported injured, including four children, Salas said. Two children, between 2 and 4 years, were rushed to Community Regional Medical Center in critical condition and two other children suffered serious injuries.

The children were passengers in the Malibu, whose driver also suffered major injuries. It wasn’t immediately clear how many people were in the Mercedes.

CHP said investigators believe the children treated at CRMC suffered serious injuries because they weren’t in a car seat or booster seat.

The victims have not yet been identified.

Salas said investigators don’t believe drugs, alcohol, or foggy weather conditions factored into the crash.
