One of Us Is Lying season 3 cancellation and everything you need to know
One of Us Is Lying season 2 spoilers follow.
Our prayers were answered when One of Us Is Lying returned for a second season. It would have been cruel not to after that season one cliffhanger, to be fair.
But this show refuses to let us rest peacefully because season two left us with even more questions than the last time.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like we’re going to get any of those burning questions answered this time around, as the show was officially cancelled by Peacock last year.
So what exactly happened? Join us here at Digital Spy as we break down why the show was axed, and what could have been.
One of Us Is Lying season 3: Why was it cancelled?
As mentioned above, One of Us Is Lying season three was officially cancelled by Peacock in January 2023.
Showrunner Erica Saleh reacted to the news on Twitter, writing: "Making two seasons of One of Us is Lying was a joy and honor. I’m disappointed that our story won’t continue on Peacock, but I feel so lucky to have spent the past years alongside the best writers, cast, and crew I know, and so grateful to our fans for all the love and support."
Writer Rick Montano also tweeted out a statement: "Huge thanks to the fans of the show for all your support. You have no idea how much you’ve meant to the crew and the cast. Y’all deserved an ending, and I wish we could have given you one. It was going to be awesome."
Deadline reported that, while Peacock executives were happy with the show creatively, the viewing numbers just weren't big enough to justify ordering a third season.
Now we’ll just have to hope that either a fan campaign, or another streamer, will be able to save the show and give us at least another season to wrap it all up.
One of Us Is Lying season 3 cast: Who would have been in it?
It's more than likely the core cast of suspects would have been back for One of Us Is Lying season three, should it have been given the green light. If another streaming service picks it up, the following folks will be hoping they'll be retained.
The 'Bayview Four' includes Bronwyn (played by Marianly Tejada), Nate (Cooper van Grootel), Addy (Annalisa Cochrane), and Cooper (Chibuikem Uche).
We'd also expect the return of supporting characters such as Vanessa (Sara Thompson), Cole (Joe Witkowski) and Maeve (Melissa Collazo).
One cast member who definitely won't be returning (except maybe in the form of flashbacks) is Doralynn Mui, whose character Fiona was killed in prison.
If the show ever gets renewed and anyone else joins Bayview, we promise we'll tell you as soon as we know.
One of Us Is Lying season 3 plot: What would have happened?
One of Us Is Lying loves a murderous cliffhanger, and season two was absolutely no exception.
The second season followed the aftermath of Jake's murder as the gang received threatening texts from an unknown individual, who used the moniker 'Simon Says', claiming to know who pulled the trigger (spoiler: it was Addy).
The Bayview Four eventually discovered that new student Fiona had met Jake in rehab and was the one behind the messages. It turns out that Fiona and Jake were in a secret relationship, and Jake had involved her in the cover-up of Simon's murder.
They managed to frame Fiona for Jake's death and she was sent to prison. But when Jake's brother Cole paid her a visit, she revealed that she knew why Jake was in rehab and told him about the video of the Murder Club attempting to dispose of his body.
Back in her cell, Fiona was poisoned and died.
The Murder Club attempted to move on with their lives as the season came to a close, and Nate gifted Bronwyn a 'Stay' necklace – but a flash forward to graduation day revealed they weren’t out of the woods yet.
The school was a bloody crime scene, and Bronwyn's necklace was discovered and brought in as evidence before the credits rolled. SO many questions. Argh!
What happened at graduation? What secret does Fiona know about Jake, and what might Cole have done to protect that secret? How does high to end for The Bayview Four?
Only time and season three would tell, so we shall pray to the Peacock/Netflix gods for a cancellation reversal and renewal.
If by some miracle this does happen, who should we include on our list of suspects in relation to Fiona's death and the graduation crime scene?
"We should definitely be looking at Cole as someone who we've got a lot of questions about going into season three," Saleh told Entertainment Tonight.
"I think it’s clear that whatever Jake's secret is, Cole really wants to keep it secret, and we'll see how far he's willing to go to keep it covered up. So we'll explore both the mystery of what Jake's secret was and what Cole might have done to cover it up.
