One state champ and a pair of runner-ups. How Augusta-area golf fared at state championships
The high school golf season is in the books and several local programs put together strong finishes.
None more than the Lakeside boys, which took the top spot in the Georgia High School Association Class 6A state championship at Chattahoochee Golf Club. The Panthers were led by sophomore Hamilton Coleman, who earned low medalist honors in the tournament.
The defending Class 5A state champion Greenbrier girls finished runner-up at Okefenokee Country Club this time around. Sophomore Adyson Lukich was the runner-up on the individual side.
The Aquinas boys also managed a runner-up finish in the Class A D-II tournament at Southern Hills Golf Club. Freshman Andrew Cochran, junior Peter Nguyen, senior Charlie Hargrove and sophomore Jack Rhodes all finished in the top 10.
Perennial 3A power Richmond Academy nabbed a fourth-place finish at Lafayette Municipal Golf Course.
The North Augusta boys, also defending state champs, finished runner-up in the South Carolina High School League Class 4A state tournament. Senior Jackson Beggs took low-medalist honors and junior Andrew Baxley finished in a tie for 2.
The Augusta Christian boys finished third in the South Carolina Independent School Association Class 4A tournament.
