The One Show's Alex Jones opens up about heartbreaking miscarriage
The One Show host Alex Jones has opened up about her tragic miscarriage as she launches a new series looking at IVF.
The presenter worked as a fertility assistant in a clinic for the documentary Making Babies, premiering tonight (January 5) on W.
In an interview promoting the series on Lorraine, she touched on how she lost a child while pregnant in 2017 and how she has huge empathy for people going through the process.
She told Lorraine Kelly: "We didn't have a straightforward time, between the two boys, we had a loss then and quite late on, and then it resulted in some complications. I didn't go down the IVF route, we thought we might have to but we didn't in the end but my goodness, is it an eye-opener.

"Once you've decided you want a baby, that need, that inherent need to have the baby, it overtakes everything. Lots of us have been there. All these couples and individuals, all they want is to hold their own baby."
Explaining why she wanted to make a show such as this, Alex said: "I don't think fertility has been covered at all on television and I thought it was a brilliant opportunity to shine a light on things couple, individuals, families go through and [people] don't understand.
"It was a good opportunity to have 10 hours where people would have an opportunity to understand what others go through... I didn't want go in as a broadcaster, that girl off the telly, I just thought 'you really need to get involved and live it really to do it justice.'"

She added that she definitely got put through her paces as part of the team, and said that the series will be an emotional rollercoaster.
