Woman identified as motorist killed in two-vehicle crash on Interstate 74

Illinois State Police are investigating a crash Wednesday morning along Interstate 74 in south Woodford County in which an employee at the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Center for Agricultural Research in Peoria was killed.

ISP said that at 8:10 a.m., they were called to the scene of the incident at mile marker 117.5 on westbound I-74. According to Woodford County Coroner Tim Ruestman, a 2012 Toyota Camry driven by Victoria Nguyen, 44, of Bloomington, was driving westbound when the vehicle collided with a 2017 Dodge Journey driven by Breanna Williams, 21, of Moberly, Missouri, driving along eastbound I-74.

Nguyen was pronounced dead at the scene. According to the USDA, she worked as a biological science lab technician specializing in bioenergy research at the Peoria ag lab.

Traffic was closed in all lanes along westbound I-74 for much of the morning and reopened early Wednesday afternoon. Drivers were diverted off I-74 at exit 120 near Carlock in McLean County, 30 miles east of Peoria and 11 miles west of Bloomington-Normal.

ISP said that an investigation into the incident is in its early stages. Ruestman said that an autopsy and toxicology tests would be conducted Thursday.
