An overnight structure fire left one dog missing and a building heavily damaged, according to the Lexington Fire Department.

The fire was reported to the fire department at 11:46 p.m. Tuesday. Maj. Jessica Bowman with the Lexington Fire Department said it happened in the 200 block of Lee Street at a two-story apartment and garage.

When firefighters arrived, the second story was fully engulfed in flames, according to Bowman. The building suffered damage as well as a nearby RV that had its roof burned off from the fire.

Four dogs were inside when the fire started and only three have been accounted for, according to Bowman. The fourth dog is missing.

The resident of the apartment was displaced and the Red Cross was contacted for assistance, Bowman said.

Investigators are working to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
