One person is dead and another is facing criminal charges after a head-on crash in Wake County Saturday morning.

Around 5:40 a.m., a Holly Springs police officer on the way to work reported the collision. The scene included a black Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck on its side and and a silver Chevy Camaro sports car upside down, said North Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper Jeremy Carroll. Each vehicle had one occupant.

The Silverado was southbound on Piney Grove Wilbon Road, and the Camaro was traveling north, Carroll said. The pickup truck crossed into the northbound lane, hitting the Camaro head on near the Rouse Road intersection .

The driver of the Silverado was arrested and charged with driving while impaired and felony death by motor vehicle, but may face additional charges, Carroll said. The driver of the Camaro died.

Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash and possibly speed, Carroll said.

Carroll wasn’t able to release the names of those involved at this time.

This is breaking news and the story will be updated when more information is available.
