A North Carolina man was killed in a crash early Tuesday morning, Feb. 6, on Route 30 in Adams County, according to officials.

Emergency personnel were called to the scene on the 1800 block of York Road, U.S. Route 30, in Straban Township, just outside of Gettysburg, around 1:06 a.m. on Tuesday morning, according to Adams County dispatch records.

Jarod Henize, 25, of Connelly Springs, North Carolina, was killed in the crash, according to a release by Pennsylvania State Police.

The crash involved a Chevrolet Silverado pickup, driven by Henize, and a Freightliner tractor trailer. The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured, according to the release.

According to the release, Henize was driving east on York Road when his vehicle crossed into the westbound lanes, striking the semi-truck head on. Both vehicles were disabled, the release said, and came to rest off of the roadway on the eastbound side of the road.

The cause of death for the victim, later identified as Henize, was multiple blunt force injuries, said Adams County Coroner Francis Dutrow.

Route 30 had been closed between Calvary Field Road and Flickinger Road until around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, but has since reopened, according to 511PA.
