One killed in Mother's Day shooting Sunday in Fayetteville

A shooting early Sunday left one person dead in a neighborhood off Rosehill Road.

Willie James Russell, 31, was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting reported at 5:21 a.m. in the 2000 block of Seneca Drive near Courtney Street, the Fayetteville Police Department said.

Russell’s slaying is the eighth homicide investigation for the Police Department this year. In the same time frame last year, city police saw 13 homicide investigations.
