Man dies after officer-involved shooting in Spring Garden Twp.: officials

A man has died at WellSpan York Hospital after an officer-involved shooting in Spring Garden Township, according to the York County Coroner's Office and state police.

The first call about the shooting came in at 12:49 p.m., said Ted Czech, public information officer with the York County Office of Emergency Management/York County 911. One injury was reported.

Law enforcement responded to the shooting at the Rest Haven nursing and rehabilitation facility at 1050 S. George St. It is directly across from WellSpan York Hospital.

None of the patients at Rest Haven were hurt, said York City Police Commissioner Michael Muldrow, who was on the scene.

State police, York City Police and York College police responded as well.

State police are investigating the shooting. There is no danger to the public, Trooper James Grothey said.

York County District Attorney David Sunday is at the scene.

An ambulance drove from the scene across the street to the hospital.

An autopsy will be scheduled.

This is the second officer-involved shooting in Spring Garden Township in just over two months. Spring Garden Township police shot and killed a man in the 600 block of Colonial Avenue Feb. 23 after the man ambushed and opened fired at officers. Sunday quickly ruled the shooting justified.
