A group of five teenage girls who stole alcohol and vaped a THC pen after ditching school on National School Walkout Day on Wednesday were in a fatal car crash in Irving that left one dead and four injured, according to the Irving Police Department.

Four girls from Singley Academy of Irving Independent School District left school on Wednesday during the walk out. They were picked up by another girl — who attends Winfrey Academy in Irving — in her vehicle.

All five girls are 15 years old and are ninth-graders at their schools.

The five girls went to a Tom Thumb at North Macarthur Boulevard and West Northgate Drive, where they were caught on security camera stealing alcoholic drinks.

The girls left the store and recorded themselves consuming the alcoholic drinks they stole and vaping THC. They posted the video on social media, according to Irving police.

The car the girls were in had all passenger seats removed except the driver’s seat, police told KXAS-TV. The driver was the only one wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the car was driving too fast and lost control of the vehicle, according to police. The car hit a curb and a tree, causing the vehicle to roll over.

A front passenger was ejected from the vehicle. One of the girls had a head injury, another had a broken pelvis, and two girls — including the driver — had some minor injuries, police told the Star-Telegram.

Two of the five girls left the vehicle and did not call 911 or try to render aid.

Police located the girls a short distance away from the scene after a caller reported the accident. The five girls were transported to a hospital.

The investigation is ongoing.
