Former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton says the farewell video posted by outgoing Blues defender Thiago Silva is a "compelling watch" and shows his "deep attachment" to the club.

Silva will leave Stamford Bridge this summer after four years in which he won the Champions League and Club World Cup.

"I watched it and he was very emotional in it," Sutton told BBC Radio 5 Live's Monday Night Club. "It moved me - the stuff about his boys playing for the club and that attachment.

"Footballers do get a certain reputation of not caring. I'd urge anybody to watch it - it's really emotional. This is a player who has had a stellar career.

"I suspect when he moved to Chelsea most people thought he was just coming to London to ease his career out. It's been anything but. He's a model professional.

"It was a really compelling watch - nice to see and nice to hear.

"He has not ruled out going back in a coaching capacity. He clearly has a deep attachment - I didn't realise he had that attachment to the club."

The 39-year-old has won 23 trophies across four counties and been capped 113 times by Brazil but New York Times journalist Rory Smith believes he still sometimes gets overlooked in conversations surrounding the best players in the world.

"Thiago Silva has been so good for so long that you kind of forget about him," Smith added.

"He's just being himself, being one of the best defenders in Europe for 20 years and he doesn't always get the plaudits he deserves.

"He is one of the best of his generation. He has been an outstanding footballer and it does still feel he can play not far off the top level."
