Once, Lake Travis soccer player Ryan Dilworth dreamed of college soccer. Now it's reality.

All about Ryan: A true Batman fan

Tell something about you that most people don't know.

Something that I do that people don't know is that I collect sports cards: football, basketball and mainly soccer. My dad is a huge baseball card collector, and he got me into it at a young age.

If you could be in the Olympics in any sport but soccer, what would you do?

I'd say playing for the basketball team. It's something I like doing on my free time with pickup games and stuff. I'm not amazing or anything, but I think it's really fun.

If you could be any superhero, who would you be?

I would be Batman. I'd choose him because he fights for justice and he doesn't have any distinct super power. He's by himself fighting for justice.

What has been your favorite vacation?

It was a trip to Playa del Carmen with my family when I was about 10. We did an excursion in Tulum and I did some really cool zip-lining and rappelling into caves. It was a really cool experience because I got to experience the nature of Mexico.

Lifelong soccer player savors his memories at Lake Travis

Tell something about the first year you played competitive soccer.

My first season was with LTYA (Lake Travis Youth Association) when I was about 6 years old and I just loved it. The main thing was how I loved scoring goals. When I was super young I scored a ton of goals.

What is your favorite soccer memory from high school?

My favorite memories are all the bus rides and team dinners and things we did together. The social aspect is what's going to stay with me. I'll have lifelong friends and memories from this.

I hear you have exciting college news.

Yes, I'll be going to play soccer at Schreiner University (in Kerrville). One thing I'm excited about is how they are rebuilding. I'll be coming in with a group of other freshmen, and I'm excited about the opportunity to make a change and make something happen.

Did you have a dream when you were a kid of playing college soccer someday?

I always thought it wasn't realistic to play college soccer, but over the past few years it's something I really wanted to do. Seeing it come true is really special to me.

Do you follow any international soccer teams?

I follow two teams — Chelsea from the English Premier League and the other is FC Barcelona from La Liga. I remember Chelsea being dominant when I was really young and I've always liked watching them play. And I love Barcelona's style of play. I've played at the Barca Academy here in Austin for four years. Playing that style and seeing it on the international stage is pretty cool.

Dream dinner: Great-grandfather holds court

If you could have dinner with any four people in the history of the world, who would they be?

I would choose Nikola Tesla, my great-grandfather (Carl Peter Kuhn) on my dad's side, Jesus Christ and George Washington.

Tell me about your great-grandfather.

He was an Olympic medalist in swimming for Germany (in 1924) before he fled to the USA. Since he was a successful athlete, I think he would give me a lot of knowledge about how to train and what it takes to be a winner. Then there's the mental game. All of that would be super beneficial from someone who's won on that stage.
