We all love lists, and Harris Interactive (HPOL) is out with its annual ranking of companies with the best reputations. Here are the top 10.
The wholesale retail chain Costco (COST) jumped from 19 last year to 10 this year. Customers love its service and employees are very loyal.
Procter & Gamble (PG) – led by strong brands such as Tide, Gillette and Crest – comes in at number nine.
Sony (SNE) is still in the top 10, even though it's lost traction with consumers in some key areas. The company continues to excel in customer service.
Whole Foods (WFM) is seventh because of its reputation for customer satisfaction and social responsibility.
Number six is Coca-Cola (KO), but that's down three spots from last year. Coke still registers high in terms of trust and respect.
Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) ranks high in most of the key areas that go into the rankings despite some highly publicized recalls in recent years.
Google (GOOG) is number four because 88 percent of its users think the service is either good or excellent. It also has a reputation as a great place to work.
Walt Disney (DIS) still has plenty of magic. It ranks very high in terms of emotional appeal with its customers. It's also one of the best in terms of social responsibility.
Despite some recent problems on Wall Street, Apple (AAPL) comes in at number two. Recent surveys rank it as the best for consumer satisfaction among cellphone makers.
And the number one company in the rankings... drumroll please... is Amazon.com (AMZN). It was fourth in the rankings last year and 12th the year before that. Customer service is considered excellent and it has the highest score for emotional appeal.
Companies that suffered significant declines in the reputation rankings include Best Buy (BBY), Honda (HMC), Kraft Foods (KRFT), Microsoft (MSFT), and J.C. Penney (JCP).
