Mandy Patinkin has played the greatest swordsman, Inigo Montoya, and now the world’s greatest detective. The Princess Bride actor stars as Rufus Cotesworth in Hulu's new mystery series, Death and Other Details—formerly known as Career Opportunities in Murder and Mayhem.

"While the show is set in our present day, the story owes a debt to golden age detective novels," showrunners Mike Weiss and Heidi Cole McAdams have previously told Entertainment Weekly. "And where Knives Out might have been inspired by 70's detective paperbacks, we were aiming at something a little bit more classical."

The mystery series will debut on the streamer on Jan. 16, 2024.

The case won't be solved in one day! The show will premiere with two episodes on Jan. 16, followed by one episode a week until the two-episode finale on March 5.

Apart from Mandy Patinkin as Rufus Cotesworth, Death and Other Details stars Violett Beane as the "brilliant and restless" Imogene Scott.

What is Death and Other Details about?

The mystery series, set on board a lavishly restored Mediterranean ocean liner, follows Imogene Scott, who according to the official synopsis, "finds herself in the wrong place/wrong time (okay, it was kinda her fault) and becomes the prime suspect in a locked room murder mystery." In order to prove her innocence, Imogene "must partner with a man she despises," Rufus Cotesworth aka "the world’s greatest detective."

Weiss and McAdams noted to EW that "this is not even" Rufus' story. They shared, "Death and Other Details introduces the world to Imogene Scott, a jaded petty thief on a collision course with Rufus. They will need each other if they have any hope of solving the mysteries that keep piling up aboard the SS Varuna."
