Omar Quintanilla leads four into El Paso Baseball Hall of Fame

The El Paso Baseball Hall of Fame will induct four members into the Hall in 2024, including former major leaguers Omar Quintanilla and Fernando Rodriguez.

The Class of 2024 will be formally inducted Sunday, August 18, 2024.

Omar Quintanilla

Quintanilla, who played shortstop, was a high school star at Socorro High School, where graduated in 2000. He later started at the University of Texas on the 2002 national title team.

In 2003, he was a first-round draft pick by the Oakland A's in 2003 and played in the major leagues for the Colorado Rockies, New York Mets, Texas Rangers and New York Mets.

Fernando Rodriguez

The Franklin High graduate was a solid pitcher in his career, who played one year at El Paso Community College in 2003 before being drafted by the Los Angeles Angels in 2003.

He pitched professionally for the Angels, Houston Astros, Oakland A's and he also had a stint with his hometown El Paso Chihuahuas, the Triple-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres.

Chuck Heist

Heist attended Eastwood High School and later played at UTEP, where he hit .375 in 1983 and .386 in 1984.

He played pro ball from 1984-1986, including stints with the Montreal and Kansas City Royals organizations.

Hector Bernal Jr.

Bernal starred at Hanks High School and EPCC before embarking on a pro career.

At EPCC, where he played from 2004-2006, he led the team in hits and batting average.

Bernal was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in 2006 and played professionally until 2011.
