Olympics schedule August 9: What events to watch, including the women's 4x100m relay
The Olympic schedule for Friday, Aug. 9, is filled with must-watch events and record-breaking athletes, so be sure to tune in.
Highlights include the track and field women’s 4x100m relay where the U.S. and Jamaica will go head-to-head as the top contenders for gold. The two teams have combined to win every Olympic and world title since 2009.
Other track events include the women's shot put, men's 400m hurdles, men's 4x100m relay and the heptathlon.

Weightlifting
Women's 71 kg/ 156 lbs. final, 1:30 p.m. ET on Peacock, NBCOlympics.com, then 5:30 p.m. on USA
Olivia Reeves from Team USA is entering the 2024 Paris Games with the top qualifying lift among the competitors in the weight class, making her the top contender for a gold medal. Angie Palacios Dajomes from Ecuador will be a tough competitor as she is a two-time world medalist in the category.
Track and Field

The men's 400m hurdles will be a thrilling race featuring three medalists from 2021: Karsten Warholm from Norway, Rai Benjamin from USA and Alison do Santos from Brazil. Since 2021, all three athletes have combined to post the 17 fastest times in history. In the women's 4x100m relay, the U.S. and Jamaica will go head-to-head in what will be a very exciting race. The two teams have combined to win every Olympic and world title since 2009.

Helen Maroulis from the U.S. is set to become the first U.S. women's wrestler to compete at the three Olympic Games. At 32-years-old, she will also become the oldest U.S. women's wrestler to take the mat at an Olympic Games.
Taekwondo

The rising U.S. star CJ Nickolas is a top contender to medal in Paris after winning silver at the world championships in 2023. He also won gold at the 2023 Pan Am Games and took home bronze at the three most recent Grand Prix competitions.
Beach Volleyball

Brazil is a powerhouse in this event, earning seven medals in seven Olympic women's beach volleyball tournaments and at least one medal in five of seven Olympics. They remain the gold medal favorite in the tournament and will face Canada.
