Olivia Rodrigo Isn’t Afraid of Shining in a Sparkly Silver Gown at the 2023 VMAs

Olivia Rodrigo’s Guts style era took a sparkly turn tonight on the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards red carpet.

Fresh off the release of her sophomore album, the “Get Him Back” singer made a jaw-dropping appearance at New Jersey’s Prudential Center, where she walked the carpet in a molten silver gown. The sparkly piece, custom-made by Ludovic de Saint Sernin, featured a V-shaped neckline, a low back, a center back leg slit, and 150,000 Swarovski crystals. She upped the ante with her shoes, opting for metallic platform stilettos by Roger Vivier.

As for her accessories, Rodrigo let her rings do the talking—namely, the same silver GUTS rings she wears on the cover of the new album.

Tonight, Rodrigo has nabbed five nominations in the categories of Video of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop, Best Cinematography, and Best Editing. She will also take the stage as one of this year’s performers, alongside others like Doja Cat, Demi Lovato, Anitta, Sabrina Carpenter, and more.

Rodrigo—who made her VMAs debut in 2021 following the wildly popular success of her first album, Sour—dropped her second studio album, Guts, last week. She opened up about her creative development as an artist during a fan Q&A session at a Spotify x American Express pop-up on September 7.

“I’m a big believer in just taking a step in any direction. Even if you’re not sure where it’s gonna lead,” she said. “The only way you’re gonna gain confidence is through experience. This record was sort of like that for me. It was kind of just me grappling with mistakes I’ve made in my life or things that I wish I didn’t do and things that I thought were really embarrassing in hindsight. But growing from things like that is the only way you’re gonna figure out who you are in this world.”
