Olivia Munn, 43, Shares Life-Changing Cancer Diagnosis

Olivia Munn

Olivia Munn had an emotional message to share with her fans this week, as she revealed that she's been diagnosed with breast cancer.

The 43-year-old actress announced the news on Instagram on Wednesday, March 13, expressing her hope to help others who are fighting their own cancer battles.

In the lengthy Instagram message, Munn shared that her doctors discovered the cancer during an MRI, which led to an eventual biopsy. She was then diagnosed with Luminal B cancer in both breasts.

"Luminal B is an aggressive, fast moving cancer," the X-Men actress explained in her post, noting that, fortunately, the cancer was found "with enough time that I had options." She has already had four surgeries, including a double mastectomy, over the past ten months.

Munn said she has kept her cancer journey private up until this point in order to "catch my breath and get through some of the hardest parts before sharing."

The Violet star made a point to tell her followers that the cancer wouldn't have been discovered for another year had her doctor not insisted on an MRI as a result of Munn's Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Score. The score was calculated by factors like age, familial breast cancer history and the fact that Munn had her first child over the age of 30. (She was 41 when she gave birth to her firstborn son, Malcolm in 2021.)

Munn said her doctor "saved" her life by taking proactive steps to catch the cancer early, and now she's hoping to do the same for other women by encouraging them to take steps for early detection.

"Ask your doctor to calculate your Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Score," she encouraged while giving a special thank you to all of the doctors and medical staff who helped treat her during the difficult time.

Munn also gave a shoutout to partner John Mulaney, as well as her other friends and family for "loving me through this."

"I'm so thankful to John for the nights he spent researching what every operation and medication meant and what side effects and recovery I could expect," she wrote in the post. "For being there before I went into each surgery and being there when I woke up, always placing framed photos of our little boy Malcolm so it would be the first thing I saw when I opened my eyes."

Munn went on to thank her friends who have also battled breast cancer for “guiding me through some of my most uncertain and overwhelming moments.”

"I hope by sharing this it will help others find comfort, inspiration and support on their own journey," she wrote in the caption of her post on Wednesday, which was met with an outpouring of love and support from her friends, family and fans, including Mulaney.

"Thank you for fighting so hard to be here for us. Malc and I adore you ❤️," the comedian, 41, wrote in the comments.

"Thank you for sharing this! Wow," added fellow actress Kaley Cuoco.

Kristin Davis also left a comment that read, "Your experience is so powerful to share! Sending you so much love and strength , so grateful you found out early and can only imagine the emotional roller coaster you have been on."

"❤️ Thank you for sharing mama. We gotchu ❤️" added Gabrielle Union, as tons of other celebs and fans alike chimed in to share their support.
