Old Navy temporarily closes in Kansas City mall where employee was killed by dump truck

The Old Navy in Kansas City’s Zona Rosa Shopping Center was temporarily closed for business on Wednesday afternoon following the death of one of its managers, killed the day before after being struck by a dump truck.

Employees and visitors to the store declined to speak to The Star about the crash and the general gathering inside. But one person confirmed the crash victim was a store employee.

On the storefront door a sign was put up to tell customers the location would be closed until further notice. A handful of people were gathered there indoors, including one small group that came carrying flowers and embraced an employee after being let inside.

Kansas City police have said the fatal crash happened around noon Tuesday as a dump truck driver was attempting to make a left turn near the intersection of N.W. 87th Street and N.W. Prairie View Road. The driver told police he did not see the pedestrian, and stopped after feeling a bump before getting out and finding the victim underneath the truck.

Police had yet to identify the victim as of Wednesday evening.
