This Old Clip of John Travolta Gushing Over Olivia Newton-John in 'Grease' Is Going Viral

Many fans and celebrities are still reeling from the death of Olivia Newton-John, who died at the age of 73 this week following a battle with breast cancer.
As many have continued to remember the legendary singer and actress, who is perhaps most famously known for her role as Sandy Olsson in the 1978 romantic comedy musical Grease, an old clip of John Travolta gushing over Olivia has resurfaced thanks to Entertainment Tonight.
In the emotional footage from a 1998 interview with the outlet, which starts at the 48-second mark in the video below, John talks about casting in Grease and how Olivia Newton-John was always Sandy to him.
"They had brought up Linda Ronstadt. They had brought up Marie Osmond. And I said, they're wonderful," John said, while a blushing Olivia sat next to him. "But every guy in the world wants Olivia Newton-John as their girlfriend, and I knew that 'cause I wanted that. I felt the same way."
He continued: "And every girl wants to be like her. If you [the Grease casting agents] don't see this, you guys are nuts, 'cause there was only one person in the world that was Sandy, and that was Olivia Newton-John."
Of course, fans were immediately touched by the clip, which was also posted on Instagram. "No one compares to her. Best Sandy. ❤️🙏🏻🕊❤️," one wrote in the comments section. "What I love about this is John Travolta said this in front of her and to her ... didn't wait until [it] was too late👏," another added.
The news of Olivia's death was announced by her husband John Easterling on social media. Shortly after, John posted a moving tribute to the actress. "My dearest Olivia, you made all of our lives so much better. Your impact was incredible," he wrote. "I love you so much. We will see you down the road and we will all be together again. Yours from the first moment I saw you and forever! Your Danny, your John!"
Olivia and John had a long friendship since playing love interests in Grease, which they both filmed in their 20s. Even as they embarked on different endeavors — Olivia pursued music that culminated in four Grammys and five number-one hits; John focused on movies and saw success in classics like Saturday Night Fever — the two remained very close. Back in 2018, John said that the strength of their friendship was rooted in the success of Grease.
“When you share that kind of meteoric success — and nothing has been able to exceed it — you share a bond,” he told People.
In the same interview, Olivia said, "[In tough times] John always reaches out to me."
Olivia had spent the last three decades battling breast cancer, a disease that John lost his own wife, Kelly Preston, to back in July 2020.
Olivia is survived by her husband, daughter Chloe, sister Sarah and brother Toby.
