Okolona native, storyteller Elizabeth McCain brings one-woman show to Hollard Farm

Nov. 15—TUPELO — Storyteller. Author. Counselor. Interfaith minister. Elizabeth McCain plays a lot of roles in her life, which is à propos for someone who performs a one-woman show.

The Northeast Mississippi native — born in Tupelo and raised in Okolona — will bring her award-winning show "Porch Stories: OUTrageous Confessions of a Southern Lesbian," to the Sadie J. Holland Farm in Plantersville on Sunday, Nov. 19. The show starts at 3:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance (purchasable through Venmo: @Elizabeth-McCain-20) or $25 at the door.

The purchase of a ticket also includes a copy of McCain's 2020 memoir, "A Lesbian Belle Tells: OUTrageous Southern Stories of Family, Loss, and Love."

Parts funny, sad and inspiring, McCain's show recounts true stories of her life growing up in rural Mississippi and coming out as a lesbian in Washington, D.C., in the 1990s. During her show, McCain will share with her audience her stories of family estrangement, loss and healing on her journey to become who she was always meant to be.

McCain has shared her stories with audiences across the country and world. She's performed in fringe theater festivals in D.C. and Baltimore, at queer theater and comedy festivals, as part of the popular Moth Story Slam and Story District pride shows in the D.C. area. She's also at retreats in Ireland, Mexico, and Asheville, NC.
