Oklahoma woman killed in apparent dog attack while house sitting for home with pit bulls, police say

Horror struck at an Oklahoma home when a dog appeared to kill a woman who was taking care of the residence, police said.

Rebecca McCurdy, 28, was found dead by officials inside a garage near Skiatook on Saturday, the Pawhuska Journal-Capital reported.

McCurdy had reportedly been caring for the dogs that lived at the residence while house sitting for a friend. The Osage County Sheriff’s Office says evidence “indicates Rebecca was the victim of a dog attack.”

The woman’s body was found by authorities who conducted a welfare check.

As an investigation into McCurdy’s death continues, authorities have removed dogs that were potentially aggressive from the residence.

“The homeowner claimed he raised pit bull dogs for hobby/sale,” reads an announcement from the Sheriff’s Office.

“There were several pit bull dogs caged in the garage. One of the dog cages was toppled over and there were many signs of a dog attack visible.”

An online fundraiser that was set up to support McCurdy’s husband and two young children following her death has raised more than $8,000 in two days.

Skiatook is located about 20 miles north of Tulsa.
