How Oklahoma State catcher Ian Daugherty provided highlights in down week for Cowboys

After a red-hot week, the Oklahoma State baseball team’s win streak collapsed.

OSU’s five-game surge turned into a three-game skid. The Cowboys dropped a midweek matchup to Dallas Baptist at home, and their road trip also had a rocky start. OSU fell twice to Kansas State, dealing with pitching struggles as Brian Holiday and Tommy Molsky recorded losses.

The Cowboys bounced back with a 6-4 victory over Kansas State on Sunday, stopping the Wildcats from sealing a sweep. But the tough week caused OSU to slip five spots to No. 22 in the USA TODAY SPORTS Baseball Coaches Poll.

With inconsistencies plaguing teams throughout the conference, the Cowboys somehow rose in the Big 12 standings. OSU is tied for second with West Virginia and Texas.

Ian Daugherty, C: After dealing with a minor elbow injury, Ian Daugherty is back. The junior from Kingfisher provided highlights during the Cowboys’ grueling week, recording an RBI in each game and six total hits. He hit a home run against Dallas Baptist and another Saturday against Kansas State, his fifth of the season.

Lane Forsythe, IF: Forsythe had a perfect day at the plate as OSU finally captured a win against Kansas State on Sunday. The senior Mississippi State transfer went 3 for 3. He recorded six total hits through the past four games.

Oklahoma State baseball number to know

2010: Heading into this year’s series, 2010 was the most recent year the Cowboys had dropped a series to Kansas State. This past weekend marked the first time Josh Holliday lost a series to the Wildcats as OSU’s head coach. The Cowboys’ all-time record against K-State is 32-13.
