Oklahoma high school tennis: Storylines, players to watch at 2024 girls state tournament

The 2024 Oklahoma high school girls tennis state tournament is set for this week at Oklahoma City Tennis Center.

The tournament will kick off Friday with the first round and quarterfinals before wrapping up Saturday.

The defending champion in Class 6A in Jenks. Tulsa Holland Hall and Tulsa Cascia Hall shared the Class 5A crown last year, but Cascia Hall is now in Class 6A.

Here are some Oklahoma City-area storylines and players to watch at the tournament:

Top storylines for 2024 Oklahoma high school girls tennis state tournament

Heritage Hall looks to make its presence known in Class 6A. The Chargers had been in Class 5A but moved up to Class 6A this season. Heritage Hall’s girls are coming off their 42nd regional title and first in the new classification. The Chargers claimed regional crowns at Yukon in No. 1 singles (Jasmine Crain), No. 2 singles (Avery Shouse) and No. 1 doubles (Tokara Henderson and Eloise Nasr).

Carl Albert among contenders for the Class 5A title. The Titans dominated the Durant regional as they won titles in No. 1 singles (Rylee Reese), No. 2 singles (Georgia Mosher), No. 1 doubles (Lily Bryant and Bailey Rusche) and No. 2 doubles (Yanira Acuna and Evi Mitchell). Carl Albert has never won a state title in tennis.

Christian Heritage enters as the defending Class 4A champion. The Crusaders won their first tennis title last year. After winning their regional in Tulsa, they’re once again strong contenders in Class 4A.

Edmond Memorial a stiff contender in Class 6A. The Bulldogs won their regional at Edmond Santa Fe and had champions in No. 1 singles (Ava Goodell), No. 2 singles (Evie Lunsford) and No. 1 doubles (Lauren Krise and Lainey Ruff).

Players to watch at 2024 Oklahoma high school girls tennis state tournament

Sofia Acuña, Sr., Classen SAS: She won the Class 5A No. 1 singles title as a sophomore and the Class 4A title last year. Acuña is back in Class 5A and enters the tournament as a regional champion.

Jasmine Crain, Jr., Heritage Hall: Crain and Tokara Henderson won the Class 5A No. 2 doubles title last year. Now in Class 6A and competing in No. 1 singles, Crain is coming off a regional championship.

Audrey Crooks, So., Oklahoma Christian School: Crooks, who competes in No. 1 singles, won her Class 4A regional and placed third at the state tournament last year.

Ava Goodell, Sr., Edmond Memorial: Goodell is having a stellar season. Her most recent victory was at Edmond Santa Fe’s Class 6A regional.

Rylee Reese, Sr., Carl Albert: The Titans’ No. 1 singles player won her regional while leading the Class 5A Titans to the team title.

Victoria Ricaurte-Cabas, Sr., Edmond North: She placed second in No. 1 singles at the Class 6A regional at Edmond Santa Fe. Last season, Ricaurte-Cabas placed fifth at the state tournament.

Brityn Waller, So., Christian Heritage: She won the No. 1 singles championship at her Class 4A regional in Tulsa and is an up-and-coming star for the Crusaders.
