Oklahoma high school tennis storylines, players to watch at 2024 boys state tournament

The 2024 Oklahoma high school boys tennis state tournament is set for Friday and Saturday.

Regionals were held throughout the state Monday, and all qualifiers will meet at Oklahoma City Tennis Center for the annual state tournament.

Here are some Oklahoma City area storylines and 10 players to watch.

Top storylines for 2024 boys tennis state tournament

Edmond Memorial among contenders in Class 6A. The Bulldogs have a loaded team and are coming off a victory at the Edmond Santa Fe regional. They claimed championships in each division and will try to win their first boys tennis state crown since 2016 and second in school history.

Heritage Hall another team to watch in Class 6A. The Chargers have storied tradition with 23 boys tennis state championships, but this is their first year in Class 6A. After winning the Yukon regional, they’ll see how they fare against the best in the classification.

Crossings Christian looks to claim its second straight title. The Knights claimed the Class 4A state crown last year and are in Class 5A this season. They won the Durant regional and dominated the competition, claiming titles in each division.

Boys tennis players to watch at the 2024 state tournament

Luke Bishop, Jr., Edmond Memorial: He has consistently been one of the state’s best and won the Class 6A No. 1 singles regional title at Edmond Santa Fe. Bishop placed sixth at the state tournament as a freshman and fourth last year.

Owen Fellrath, Jr., Heritage Hall: Fellrath, who placed fourth in No. 1 singles at the Class 5A state tournament last year, won the Class 6A regional in No. 1 singles at Yukon.

Gray Ferguson, Sr., and Emerson Ritenour, Sr., Heritage Hall: They won the No. 1 doubles championship at the Class 6A regional in Yukon and were named The Oklahoman’s All-City Tennis Players of the Year last season after claiming the Class 5A No. 1 doubles state title. Ferguson and Ritenour also won the No. 2 doubles state championship as freshmen.

Augustine Huston, Sr., Mount St. Mary: Huston will be a No. 1 singles player to watch in Class 4A. He won the regional title at Tulsa Lincoln Christian’s LaFortune Tennis Center.

Trenton Kanchanakomtorn, So., Westmoore: He finished as the runner-up in No. 1 singles at the Class 6A regional at Edmond Santa Fe. Kanchanakomtorn placed third at the state tournament as a freshman.

Alex Peterson, Sr., Harrah: Peterson is among the top contenders in Class 4A No. 1 singles after winning the regional title in Tecumseh.

TJ Shanahan, So., Bishop McGuinness: He won the Class 5A regional title in No. 1 singles at Duncan and will try to claim his first state title after finishing as the runner-up last season.

Ben VanLandingham, Jr., Crossings Christian: The Knights’ No. 1 singles player is having a stellar year and enters the state tournament as the Durant regional champion in Class 5A.

Ian Wu, So., Classen SAS: He claimed the No. 1 singles championship at the Class 5A Riverfield Country Day regional in Tulsa.
