Oklahoma City ranked 2nd-best place for small businesses nationwide

The Oklahoma City metro was ranked the second-best place for small businesses nationwide by Forbes Advisor in its 2024 report on the most and least risky places for small businesses in America.

The report analyzed metrics focused on financial risk, safety risk and workforce and customer risk for the 50 largest metro areas with available data.

OKC ranked among the top three best places for small businesses due to its above-average gross domestic product growth rates and positive population growth.

Other areas in the top three include the Raleigh area in North Carolina and the Atlanta area in Georgia.

In Forbes Advisor's report, OKC ranked second-lowest in the study's price parity metric, meaning the cost of supplies and equipment in the area is cheaper than others.

The state of Oklahoma suffered $1.39 billion in retail crime cost in 2021, according to Forbes Advisor, which is much less than the $4.2 billion average.

OKC also ranked ninth lowest in Forbes Advisor's cybercrime metric with 34 resident experiencing cybercrime per 10,000, which is lower than the average of 82.
