OK, Maybe Patton Oswalt Doesn't Know Anything About 'Eternals 2'

Eternals was a big experiment for Marvel. Led by an Academy Award-winning indie director, Chloe Zhao, the film gave us a dozen new heroes with bizarre names like Kingo, Druig, and Pip the Troll. Fans are used to simpler names and plots! You know, man becomes iron or man becomes spider. So the confusing film about space cops created by a giant god robot was a little much for an audience simply just getting used to going back to the theater after the pandemic lockdown.

It made sense, then, when Marvel boss Kevin Feige announced an insane amount of projects at Comic Con, and there wasn't so much as a passing reference to Eternals. Even though Marvel tagged on a title card at the end of Eternals that said the crew would return, we've heard nothing official about the future of the god-like team of heroes until somewhat recently. Nate Moore, Marvel Studios' VP of Production and Development, told Phase Zero in an interview posted to YouTube that "I don't want to spoil anything, but we have not seen the last of those characters." Does that mean we'll be getting an Eternals 2, or could they show up in another superhero's film?

Well, friend, Patton Oswalt, who showed up as Pip the Troll in the post-credits scene of Eternals, appeared to spoil that for us a couple of months ago. He jumped on the TODAY show and blurted that there was going to be an Eternals sequel. "They have announced there's going to be an Eternals sequel," Oswalt said. "Chloé Zhao is going to direct it. So, hopefully there will be more adventures of Starfox and Pip."

Have they announced an Eternals sequel, Patton? Have they?! They have not. In an interview with The Playlist, fellow Eternals star Kumail Nanjiani said, "I don't think Patton was right. I think that there was a hoax website–one of those where it's like one letter off from the real one. They tweeted it, and it spread around and I think that's what Patton saw." Nanjiani added that he has "no idea" if the sequel will ever happen.

Poor Patton Oswalt. Let the man have his Eternals sequel, if he wants it!
