The Fairfield Union boys and girls track and field teams will look to ride the momentum of sweeping the Division II regional titles Saturday at Muskingum into the state meet.

Fairfield Union, which also won the boys and girls titles in the MSL-Buckeye and district meets, swept the regional championships for the first time, according to coach Robert Myers.

“I’m very proud of them,” Myers said. “It’s been fun. We’re not done. We have to reset, regroup. We have quite a few going to state. The goal is always to be your best at state, but state is an incredible competition. We’ll go in and focus on the process and do what we can.”

The girls (72) finished ahead of second-place New Concord John Glenn (57 ½) and the boys (54) finished ahead of runner-up Steubenville (48).

Anna Conrad led the girls, winning the 1,600 meters (5:06.84) and joining Sarah Lepi, Averey Cottrill and Abigail Pike on the first-place 1,600 relay (4:00.02). Cottrill won the 300 hurdles (45.7).

For the boys, Chayse Lipscomb won the 110 hurdles (14.25) and 300 hurdles (37.36), and Nathan Phillips won the 1,600 (4:23.0).

The top four finishers in each regional event, along with two at-large berths from throughout the state, advanced to the three-day state meet, which begins Thursday at Welcome Stadium in Dayton.
