Recap: OHSAA high school boys basketball regionals | GlenOak vs. Brunswick score updates

Four Stark County-area high school basketball teams entered this week two wins away from a trip to the state basketball tournament in what will be the final version of this incarnation of the OHSAA final four before next year's expansion of divisions.

The regional semifinals got underway Tuesday night. GlenOak was the first of the are four to take the floor, losing to Brunswick on Tuesday night. Jackson, Central Catholic and Malvern each play semifinals Wednesday.

Here's how the GlenOak-Brunswick game unfolded:

Brunswick holds off GlenOak, advances to OHSAA regional final at Kent State

Brunswick wins 53-46 over GlenOak. The Golden Eagles close out the season 20-7, as Reese Zerger scored 16 points, while Ja'Corey Lipkins and Katour Ashcraft each added 10 points and seven rebounds apiece. Trey Drexler leads Brunswick 19 points. Quinn Barnett adds 14. The Blue Devils went 8-for-10 from foul line in the fourth quarter to seal the win. The 23-4 Blue Devils advance to a Friday night regional final back at Kent State against either Jackson or St. Ignatius (they play in a semifinal Wednesday).

GlenOak cuts Brunswick lead to one possession

Brunswick is up 45-42 with 2:50 left in the fourth quarter after GlenOak all-district quard Ja'Corey Lipkins scored following a Blue Devil turnover.

A 7-2 run to start the fourth quarter has Brunswick up 43-35 with 6:35 left. Trey Drexler capped the run with a deep 3 and GlenOak called a timeout.

Brunswick takes the lead on GlenOak entering fourth quarter

Brunswick leads GlenOak 36-33 after three quarters. Trey Drexler got fouled shooting a 3 with 0.4 seconds left and made all three free throws for the Blue Devils. Earlier in the third, Brunswick took its first lead since midway through the opening quarter when Trey Drexler hit his team's first 3 of the game followed by a pull-up jumper from Quinn Barnett for 25-24 with 4:09 left in the third.

GlenOak leads Brunswick at the half in regional semifinal at Kent State

GlenOak leads Brunswick 21-20 at the half. Reese Zerger leads the way with eight points for the Golden Eagles, who led by as many as six during the second quarter. Quinn Barnett and Trey Drexler have six points each for the Blue Devils, who are 0-for-8 from 3-point range. Brunswick is offsetting its tough night shooting by hurting the Eagles on the offensive glass a bit.

GlenOak leads Brunswick 19-13 with 3:12 left in 2Q. Reese Zerger leads the Eagles with eight points.

GlenOak boys basketball leads regional semifinal after Q1

GlenOak holds an 11-8 lead over Brunswick after one quarter. The Golden Eagles led by as many as five after a fadeaway jumper and 3-pointer from sophomore Issa White put them ahead 11-6 with 2:10 left in the quarter. GlenOak forced three turnovers within the first six minutes.

OHSAA boys basketball regional semifinal: GlenOak vs. Brunswick

GlenOak enters tonight with a 20-6 record. The Eagles are playing a regional game for the first time in 13 years. Brunswick is 22-4. The game tips at 7, at Kent State's MAC Center.
