OHSAA district softball updates: Granville, Watkins Memorial win titles

The Granville softball team started a busy day of action Saturday with a thrilling victory against Licking Valley.

Ally Ernsberger’s two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning lifted the Blue Aces to a 4-2 victory in a Division II district final. Granville plays either New Richmond or Indian Lake at Wright State on Wednesday.

Megan Lodge opened the scoring with a home run for Granville. Valley took a 2-1 lead on an Addison Justice two-run home run.

Granville plays Indian Lake at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wright State.

Utica fell 10-8 to West Jefferson in a Division III district final. Kaitlin Evans hit a game-tying three-run home run highlighting a rally as Utica turned a 5-1 deficit into an 8-5 lead, but the Roughriders rallied for a five-run sixth inning.

Watkins Memorial rolled to a 10-0 victory against Olentangy Orange to win its fourth consecutive Division I district title. Kendal Tellings and Gracie Gerhardt each hit a two-run single in the first inning, and Kyliee Trouten later homered for the Warriors.

Watkins plays Hilliard Bradley at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Big Walnut.
