In 2014, Ohio State football’s quarterback room featured high-profile names like Braxton Miller, J.T. Barrett and Cardale Jones. Fast forward to 2021, the Buckeyes’ current quarterback group has the potential to be just as special.

With the departure of Justin Fields to the NFL, Ryan Day has to find a successor at quarterback. It’s been a three-man race between C.J. Stroud, Jack Miller and Kyle McCord all offseason long. A new name has since been added to the room. Five-star quarterback Quinn Ewers – the biggest name in the 2022 cycle – is skipping his senior year of high school to join the Buckeyes ahead of the 2021 season.

Most experts still expect Stroud to get the start this upcoming season. He distanced himself from Miller and McCord during spring ball and has reportedly won over his teammates. But you can’t rule Ewers out just yet. He’s a consensus five-star prospect for a reason. We wouldn’t put it past him to win the starting gig outright before the 2021 season kicks off.

Regardless of what the future holds, Stroud is “happy” for Ewers. He told reporters on Tuesday he’s going to “accept him in the room with open arms.” It doesn’t sound like Stroud is going to treat Ewers like an outsider.

“I’m happy for him, man,” Stroud said on Tuesday, via Dan Hope of Eleven Warriors. “He’s a good kid, and I’m happy that he’ll be able to make some money … We’ll accept him in the room with open arms, just like we did Kyle (McCord). At the end of the day, it’s all a brotherhood.”

Believe it or not, Ohio State football’s current quarterback room might be the most talented its ever been, and that’s saying something.

The Buckeyes have a track record of having elite quarterbacks. That pattern should continue in coming years.
