U.S. marshals shoot, kill person in Southwest Austin Wednesday morning

Multiple members of the U.S. marshal's Lone Star Fugitive Task Force shot and killed someone in Southwest Austin on Wednesday morning, two officials with first-hand knowledge told the American-Statesman.

Sgt. Deon Cockrell with the Texas Department of Public Safety said there would be no press conference on Wednesday about the shooting. He said more information would be shared later in the day.

Cpt. Darren Noak, a public information officer with Austin-Travis County EMS, said medics responded to a gunshot wound call at 10:52 a.m. in the 6600 block of West William Cannon Drive, just east of the Y in Oak Hill.

The Austin Police Department posted on X, the site formerly known as Twitter, that a public information officer was responding to the scene of the police shooting.

An update later in the afternoon by the Austin police said that the Texas Rangers, with the Texas Department of Public Safety, will be leading the investigation. It's unclear whether officers with the Austin Police Department had any involvement in the shooting.
