Service officer with Fresno Police injured in a crash in Fresno. Driver suspected of DUI

A community service officer was injured Tuesday night after a driver crashed into her patrol vehicle in Fresno.

Fresno Police Lt. Robert Dewey said the collision happened at 7:30 p.m. at Maple and Belmont avenues when a driver crashed into the community service officer’s vehicle at a high-rated speed.

The community service officer had her lights flashing at the time of the collision because of a previous hit-and-run collision in front of her.

The officer was taken to a local hospital for back pain and is awake and conscious, Dewey said. He added the driver of the vehicle is suspected of DUI and was taken to the hospital for injuries.

Dewey said there weren’t many witnesses.
