Off-duty Kansas City area firefighter dies in crash on rural Missouri highway

A 31-year-old Kansas City area firefighter died Thursday when his Dodge pickup ran off a rural Missouri highway and struck several trees, according to a preliminary Missouri Highway Patrol crash report.

The driver was identified as Adam C. Williams of Concordia, Missouri. He was a firefighter with the Central Jackson County Fire Protection District, which serves Blue Springs, Grain Valley, Lake Tapawingo, and some surrounding areas of unincorporated Jackson County.

“Adam joined the CJC family in February of this year and had already proven to be a dedicated, motivated and valuable member of the District,” said Community Risk Reduction Chief Chip J. Portz, a spokesman for the fire department. “Our hearts, prayers and thoughts are with his wife, their two young boys and the rest of his family.”

The crash occurred about 6:30 p.m. Thursday as Williams was headed east on Route E in a 2022 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup truck. He traveled off the right side of the highway just west of Missouri 23 highway. and struck struck several trees before the truck came to a rest.

Williams was pronounced dead at the scene.

Williams, a veteran of the U.S. Army, was with the Belton Fire Department prior to joining the Central Jackson County Fire Protection District.
