NYC weighing options on Mets sale: Mayor de Blasio

Amid rumors the city may block the sale of the Mets, Mayor de Blasio said Monday the administration is evaluating its options.

He said because the city owns the land where the Mets' Citi Field is located, “the city always has to have a role when there is an ownership change.”

“This is something our Law Department is evaluating right now. We obviously want to get to resolution on this very quickly,” Hizzoner said at a press conference.

Last week, a committee of Major League Baseball owners approved the sale of the Mets from Fred and Jeff Wilpon to billionaire hedge fund manager Steve Cohen, paving the way for a vote by all the owners.

Hizzoner previously voiced support for Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez’s unsuccessful bid.

The Daily News asked for Cohen’s comment through Point72 Asset Management, where he is chairman and CEO. The firm did not immediately respond.

The Mets declined to comment.
