NY Giants QB Daniel Jones leaves Sunday's game due to injury; Tommy DeVito enters game

LAS VEGAS - Daniel Jones' return lasted 15 minutes and change of game action before a right knee injury on the final play of the first quarter sent him back to the sideline.

And the Giants are bracing for the worst regarding Jones, believing he suffered a significant injury that, following further testing Monday, will more likely than not reveal a torn ACL, multiple individuals with knowledge of the situation told NorthJersey.com after Sunday's 30-6 loss to the Raiders.

That was the unfortunate diagnosis on site after in-stadium tests by the training staff, and while nothing is conclusive until MRI scans are complete - that'll happen Monday in New York - medical professionals see enough of these injuries in the NFL that they typically know by sight and, more than that, feel.

Undrafted rookie Tommy DeVito replaced Jones on the second play of the second quarter after Jones tumbled to the ground on his drop back while attempting to look downfield and throw a pass. Jones needed attention from the Giants' medical staff and walked off the field gingerly.

The Giants' locker room was silent and somber with teammates expressing their devastation for Jones.

Giants offensive lineman Justin Pugh summed everything up, attempting to avoid talking directly about the likely torn ACL for Jones, but the gut-wrenching circumstances.

"I just can't think of a more worst-case scenario for a player," Pugh said, acknowledging how the Giants had great admiration for how Jones fought to come back from his neck injury after missing three games, and now this.

DeVito is the only quarterback on the active roster. Veteran Matt Barkley, who spent time with Brian Daboll in Buffalo, was signed to the practice squad this week. Tyrod Taylor suffered a rib cage injury last Sunday against the Jets and was placed on injured reserve Saturday.

Daboll would not offer any details on Jones' injury after the game, saying he would wait until the medical evaluation played itself out on Monday.

Jones took an awkward step trying to scramble out of the pocket away from Raiders star Maxx Crosby, and it looked as though his right knee was tweaked as he attempted a cut. During the break between the first and second quarters, Jones tried loosening up his right leg on the sideline. Then he threw a handful of passes to Wan'Dale Robinson, and when play resumed, Jones took the field with the offense.

Facing a second-and-17, Jones dropped back to pass and after a few steps dropped to the ground. His right knee appeared to buckle and the training staff was on the field almost immediately.

DeVito completed a pass on third-and-long, but the Giants were forced to punt.

Jones did not return and was officially ruled out of the game early in the third quarter.

Jones had missed the last three games with a neck injury and was cleared to return last Sunday prior to the Jets game, but he had already been declared out. He looked rusty in the early going against the Raiders, misfiring twice deep to Jalin Hyatt, who both times beat his defender. Jones' first throw of the game sailed over Saquon Barkley's head on the left sideline.

Jones spent time in the medical tent on the Giants' sideline before walking to the locker room.

The Giants now trail the Raiders, 14-0.
