The Voice

And now there are two.

Two South Carolina singers on this season of “The Voice.”

Easley resident, 15-year-old Ansley Burns, made it through the blind audition this week to secure a spot on Blake Shelton’s team.

Last week, Converse University student Emma Brooke joined John Legend’s team.

Burns was a semifinalist on another singing competition show, “America’s Got Talent” in 2019.

On “The Voice” she sang “Unchained Melody” and earned the attention of Shelton and his wife Gwen Stefani.

“I literally used my block on my wife,” he said.

On her website, Burns said she began singing at 3, started voice lessons at 8 and sang in local events and churches before getting a spot on “America’s Got Talent,” during which she fought it out with the acerbic Simon Cowell. Twice he stopped her performance because he didn’t like the background music and she sang a cappella. She was 12.

Once she was voted off, viewers voted her back on for the semifinals, where she sang “Cry Pretty,” Carrie Underwood’s song. The Facebook video of her performance had 1.4 million views.

She did not make it to the finals.

Stefani lost out on the other South Carolina contestant, Emma Brooke, whose real name is Emma Brooke Alley. She chose to work with John Legend after singing the Mamas and Papas hit “California Dream.’”

She is 19 and from Lyman, South Carolina. She’s trained in classical music but told the judges she wanted to branch out into contemporary music. She is a graduate of the Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities in Greenville.

She started taking voice lessons when she was 6.

Her first single “Feelin’ Good” was released in January.

She’s also a member of a blues, indie rock band, The Blue Executive.

The Voice” is on NBC Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. and next day on Peacock.
