Notre Dame’s First Game Of 2021 Season Won’t Be Televised

On Sunday, September 11, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team will play their first home game of 2021 against Toledo. But Notre Dame fans won’t be able to catch them on TV.

On Wednesday, NBC’s Peacock TV app announced on Twitter that the game will be broadcast exclusively on the app. The company announced that all Notre Dame home games will also be streamed on the app this season.

Peacock did not clarify initially whether the game would be available on their free version or the paid version. As of writing, they have yet to issue a clarification.

Nevertheless, fans are very upset with this announcement. The comments section of the post is riddled with thumbs-down emojis and other negative reactions.

Given that Notre Dame Stadium is expected to be at full capacity for the game, and it will be held on the 20th anniversary of 9/11, it seems strange that NBC would choose to stream the game this way rather than on their main broadcast station.

Foreign fans will be geo-locked out of watching the game in this way as well.

NBC has held the broadcast rights to Notre Dame home games for years, but the seasons ahead will likely feature far more of a transition to streaming across the board.

We can look forward to a lot more frustration over switching to streaming services for big teams and big games.
