As much as we love all of the conveniences of shopping online, there’s something nice—nostalgic, even—about visiting a brick-and-mortar and being able to experience the furniture before buying it. Feeling the texture of a jute area rug, leaning back against the cushions of a L-shape sectional, and testing the efficacy of blackout shades with your phone’s built-in flashlight are opportunities the Internet can’t offer. We’ve been begging former online-only marketplaces for a physical store, and it seems one of them has finally listened. That’s right; Wayfair will open a giant outpost in a major U.S. city—get all the details below.

Where Is the Store?

The first Wayfair store will span 150,000 square feet in a shopping center about 30 minutes outside downtown Chicago. If you live in Illinois, you may be familiar with Edens Plaza in the suburban enclave of Wilmette, which already plays host to Bed, Bath & Beyond.

When Does It Open?

The highly anticipated store will open on May 23, 2024. It’s complete with what the brand is calling a “Dream Center,” where you can test out the myriad mattresses; a Market Square, complete with textiles, decor, and small accessories; a design studio for free decorating advice; and a Porch, the clever name of Wayfair’s cafe.

What Does the Wayfair Store Sell?

You can buy anything you’d snag online in the store as well. Of course, the transparent amount of stuff will be limited, considering just how much inventory is available online, but the store will sell thousands of pieces you can buy right off the floor. If you like something but want it in a different color, the associates will be able to order it for you and either ship it to your home for free or to the store for pickup.

What Are the Deals Like?

Much like any physical store, there will be sales on sales, so be prepared to shop for things you didn’t even know you needed because the savings will be that good. Because the store hasn’t yet opened, the exact sales and discounts haven’t been released, but we know they’ll be impressive.
