Northeast football hires Deonte Weston as coach

Northeast football has hired Deonte Weston as its next coach.

Weston was hired as the Eagles' offensive coordinator this winter. He replaces Sam Lipsey, who resigned after one season.

"I truly believe my purpose is to serve the youth through the game of football, which helps instill life lessons along the way," Weston said in a statement. "This program has such a rich history and I'm excited to be a small part of it."

Weston played football at Hopkinsville High School in Kentucky, graduating in 2010. Prior to Northeast, he was a middle school coach at Trigg County and an assistant coach at Christian County. Last season, Weston coached at Todd County Central under Josh Robins, who was the coach at Fort Campbell from 2017-19.

Northeast went 1-9 last season, its worst record since it went winless in 2007. The opening of Kirkwood cut into Northeast's enrollment zone, leaving the Eagles with an inexperienced roster as a number of players transferred to the Cobras, while standout offensive players such as Jaiden Puig, Kham Athy and Dezmond Fort graduated or transferred.

Weston will be the fourth coach Northeast has had since 2018. Chad Watson, who's going into his second season at Kirkwood, left for Gallatin after the 2018 season, and Brandon Clark led the Eagles from 2019-21. Claude Townsend coached Northeast in 2022 but was fired after that season.

Montgomery County will have four new football coaches this season, with Weston joining Montgomery Central's Wyatt Page and Northwest's Mark Hall. West Creek will also have a new coach after Rob Gallowitz resigned in March.
