North Texas reaches record-breaking high temperatures, wind advisory in effect

Wednesday is the second day in a row temperatures rose to record numbers in North Texas, the National Weather Service in Fort Worth reported.

Temperatures reached 85 degrees at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport about 1:30 p.m., breaking a record previously set in 1911 at 83 degrees, the NWS said. Tuesday’s temperature reached 83 degrees.

Temperatures are expected to drop Wednesday night due to a cold front, but that could bring strong winds.

The weather service issued a hazardous weather outlook for North and Central Texas warning of a continued threat for grass fires through the evening, mainly west of Interstate 35, where low humidity and gusty winds may occur.

A wind advisory is also in effect overnight with northwest winds hitting around 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. The winds should continue through Thursday morning before settling, according to the advisory.
