North Carolina man dies in Horry County crash after vehicle overturns in ditch with water

A North Carolina man died in an accident Monday after he was ejected from a vehicle, according to the Horry County Coroner’s Office.

Charleston Morris, 37, of Linden, died on the scene from multiple traumatic injuries, the coroner’s release said. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Morris was one of five people in the vehicle that crashed at noon on S.C. 9 near the Waccamaw River in the Longs area, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The driver of a 2014 Kia Sorento was traveling northbound on S.C. 9 when the vehicle went off the roadway and overturned, according to Cpl. Lena Butler with SCHP in a release. The vehicle overturned in a ditch filled with water, according to a Facebook post by Horry County Fire Rescue.

The other four people in the vehicle were transported to the hospital, according to Horry County Fire Rescue.
