North Carolina Dog Rescue's Story of Saving Puppies From Mailbox Is a Tear-Jerker

Animal control officers out of Charlotte, North Carolina rescued two puppies that were left abandoned in a mailbox according to a rescue group.

Forgotten, Now Family Rescue, a nonprofit organization in Charlotte, rescued the puppies that weren't even old enough to be weaned.

The rescue organization posted on Facebook, "I’ve seen a lot of things but this was a first for me. Animal control Officers were called to a known crack house in Lancaster. The report was “there are puppies in the mail box”… well there were in fact 2 puppies in the mailbox. Officers didn’t secure a mom or any other babies and this feels so off and heart breaking to me."

The shelter also explained they will be canvassing the area to look for the mama of these babies and any additional puppies. A vet tech bottle fed the newborns overnight until the rescue could take over.

They also added something I think we all can agree with by saying, "The sick human who put them in a mailbox deserves to be charged so we hope to gather more info."

The idea of anyone abandoning helpless puppies, who still need care from their mama, like this is absolutely heartbreaking.

What To Do If You Absolutely Have To Re-Home Your Pet

It goes without saying, you should never leave your pet anywhere. That includes leaving it in a box at your veterinarian's office or at your local shelter. Do not abandon your pet in the country, or in a supermarket parking lot, or at a park somewhere, or on the side of the road, or in a mailbox. Ever.

Puppies have a much easier time finding homes than older dogs, so there was absolutely no reason to abandon these puppies. A shelter will always help you with either finding a foster family to care for the puppies or other alternatives. This above case is just a case of animal cruelty.

Before you decide to re-home your pet you should really think about the reasons why. If you are re-homing due to sickness or a death in the family, these are valid and understandable and heartbreaking reasons. If you are re-homing your pet due to a behavioral issue, seek help from a professional first because most behavior problems in pets can be corrected. Your local animal shelter may even offer free help to correct any issues that are making you consider surrendering your pet.

If you absolutely must find a new home for your pet, ask friends or family if they are interested in adopting your animal. You can try re-homing groups on social media but be sure you check references and consider asking for a small re-homing fee so you can make sure your pet is going to a good home.

Contact your local Humane Society or animal shelter and ask about their re-homing intake process. Due to shelter overcrowding there may be a waiting period. You should make a monetary donation to the organization that will try and find your pet a new home, but at the very least you should offer volunteer time in exchange for this service.

Thank goodness these tiny puppies are now safe and getting the care they need. They deserve the best loving forever home ever and the person who did this deserves jail time.
